I loved creating this piece. Like most of my mandalas, it is a mixed media work of art on thick, professional mixed media paper. I use all my tools like a compass, angles, rulers, pencils and erasers to create the basic design. Then, with an ultra steady hand, have to trace over the entire design done in pencil with an ultra fine tipped archival pen that is full of professional grade ink that will not fade over time. I chose every ingredient and every part of the design very carefully and usually after much thought. So, we are ending the black and white stage of creation now.

Then, the art comes alive with vibrant, alive colors using professional artist pens in black and colored inks, INK by Liquitex that gets applied CAREFULLY with a tiny brush and the background in this particular piece was done with a fine art quality set of Watercolor Paints by Winsor & Newton, a company that has become masters in their field.

Winsor & Newton have a lengthy and interesting history. Let’s touch on that a bit. In 1832 chemist William Winsor and artist Henry Newton brought together the knowledge of the scientist and the creativity of the artist to offer an unprecedented choice of colour, clarity and permanence to fine artists.

Winsor & Newton pinpointed what was really needed – a regular source of reliable colours and brushes. Winsor & Newton first developed vastly improved watercolours, followed by a number of other innovations including Chinese White, the first durable opaque white watercolour, and collapsible tin tubes for both oils and watercolours.
